World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
